PC/PS3 - Sharing?

Maybe it if it suits you: To activate media sharing with PS3 Windows 7:

Go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center -> change advanced sharing settings (in the right panel).

In the "Media streaming" section:
- Click on "Choose options multimedia streaming ..."

Then in the drop down menu "show devices on:"
- Select "All networks" normally "Unknown Device" should appear (the ps3).
- Select "Allow" from the dropdown menu to allow the PS3 (also customize and checked to allow all of my media library to be shared with the device) to access media files on the PC.

In my case I always first launched Windows Media Player on my PC (after launched once, it can be left on my pc) before trying to play music on my ps3 or my Xbox360

Now it only remains to find a media server on the ps3 if it is not already done,
and normally you need access to your media files (copy + streaming playback)

The other poster is right... you'll be disappointed with the quality of Internet video on an HD TV, but that will get better.
You're going to want a media "hub" with Internet, home network, and video capabilities. I've heard the new Sony PS3 fits the bill, and it also includes Blue Ray DVD, which can play HD movies.
Apple is rolling out a media hub in spring, which will be intergated with the Apple sote for video and music (but of course will let you donwload from ther sources as well).
And you're right, this seems like a natural capability for Comcats to add
