Question on P2P file sharing sites

I had been using a P2P site...I think that's what you call them?....called Bearshare...for downloading music files. I assumed it was all 'legal' because I was paying a monthly fee for the service. Anyway I've since learned that not only do the musicians not receive any royalties this way, but it can make my PC susceptible to problems.
So I deleted all the Bearshare programs by going to My Computer/Programs/Delete Programs or whatever it's called. However, I am still seeing bearshare stuff show up on my PC, for example when I start up the internet and it has Bearshare search page as the opening page

Best tricks for my iBook? for music/web/etc?

Total newbie to Mac...Never had an iBook, love it so far, sharing it with my sweetie...
Questions:
should i keep browsing with Safari, or is Firefox my best bet here as well?
knowing little about p2p apps, but having Limewire on my PC, is that the best way to gather music with my iBook, or is there other stuff I should know about? Also is iTunes the best player? Can I run Final Scratch/Tractor on an iBook if I choose to?
Do ibooks/macs have any sneaky background programs I should disable to make things run better like Pc's? What's the best way to check my pe

You can't use p2p to download programs.
Too many evil little kiddie hackers out there.
Riaa is working with the ISPs to shut down music sharing.
The movie people are going after some of the new release movie sharers.
Some people use "peer guardian" from what i've heard.
